Decision Made?
If you have decided to:
- Change course
- Go external
- Take leave or defer
- Withdraw from individual units, or
- Withdraw from study,
You will make things easier for yourself if you take some steps to inform various people, formalise your arrangements and obtain copies of relevant documentation. If you decide to withdraw from individual units, talk to your Faculty Office before you withdraw, as your degree prerequisites could be affected.
If you haven't already done so, take some time to talk to:
- a counsellor
- a careers advisor
- your course coordinator/faculty student administration
- CentreLink. If you're on a payment you have to tell them within 14 days of any change in your enrolment to avoid overpayment, or you might need to apply for Newstart or similar payment as a jobseeker.
- International Services Officer
- Oorala Student Support Officer
- Services UNE
- Research Services, and/or
- your head of residence
to discuss any issues and obtain any necessary information.
Then:
- check principal dates. You may be able to withdraw from individual units without penalty or before the HECS census date.
- obtain copies of relevant documentation, such as an academic transcript of units completed.
And remember…
- Dropping out is not the end of the world.
- You have good reasons for being unable to continue at this time.
- Talk to a counsellor if you are unhappy.
- Don't burn your bridges if you have a choice.
