Studying Medicine at UNE
The Joint Medical Program (JMP) is offered through a unique partnership between the University of New England (UNE), the University of Newcastle (UoN) Hunter New England Local Health District and the Central Coast Local Health District – an Australian first.
The JMP initiative is an innovative, cost-effective response to the chronic shortage of doctors in regional, rural and remote areas of the Hunter and New England regions and across Australia. Since 2008, the JMP has been delivered across the two universities capitalising on both institutions' long traditions of excellence and achievement.
The JMP offers students a seamless mix of metropolitan, regional, rural and remote experience. The course is characterised by an innovative problem-based, integrated curriculum with early clinical exposure and substantial community involvement. Students will work in small tutorial groups of 8–10 to analyse clinical problems, and to gain an understanding of relevant scientific data.
