CRN PhD scholarship - Theme A

Collaborative Research Network (CRN) for Mental Health and Well-being in Rural Communities.  Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).

The University of New England (UNE) was awarded $4.8 million dollars from the Australian Government to establish a Collaborative Research Network (CRN) on Mental Health and Well-being in Rural and Regional Communities. The project is managed by UNE in collaboration with five partners: the Universities of Newcastle, Sydney, La Trobe and New South Wales as well the Hunter New England Local Heath District. The CRN is supported by a large and dynamic bio-psychosocial team of senior academic staff across four universities. The activities of the CRN build links with rural communities and health providers with focus on 3 thematic areas:

A. Self-care and mental health within regional communities (UNE, U. Sydney, U. Newcastle & HNELHD)

B. Sexuality, identity & mental health impacts on well-being and inclusion (UNE, Aust. Research Centre in Sex, Health & Society at La Trobe) [all scholarships now filled for this theme]

C. Biomedical science to support rural mental health (UNE, UNSW & U. Newcastle) [all scholarships now filled for this theme]

Applications are now open for a PhD scholarship in Theme A.

This scholarship will focus on the secondary analysis of existing datasets focusing on rural issues for individuals with disabilities and will be preferably based at UNE in Armidale, NSW. Supervision will be conducted jointly by UNE and the Centre for Disability Research and Policy at the University of Sydney. Candidates must have a strong background in quantitative analysis (though there is a possibility of extending the project to include a small qualitative component) and hold a relevant Honours degree or be able to demonstrate equivalent research experience.

Each scholarship is AUD $29,092 pa (tax exempt) for a period of three years.
