| Unit Description |
Entomology introduces students to the behaviour, ecology, identity and physiology of insects. Students will be examining the fundamental roles that insects play in the natural, agricultural, urban and domestic environments. Student outcomes will include an appreciation for seeing insects as the major drivers of ecosystem function, and as fundamental drivers of biodiversity, as well as their role in forensic entomology, and biocontrol/quarantine. The major assessments will include a comprehensive insect collection, laboratory report, and literature review based on lecture material. Students should note that this unit requires animal experimentation and/or dissection during some mandatory practical classes.
