Unit Description

This unit introduces students to 20th century Latin American literature through a printed and audio anthology of short literary works in Spanish. The unit promotes the skills of reading and listening and develops techniques of literary and cultural analysis.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate a general knowledge of twentieth-century Latin American literature, particularly poetry and narrative, through the study of key authors and literary movements;
  2. understand the relationship between literature, history and politics by focussing on some political events such as the Mexican and the Cuban Revolutions;
  3. comment on the inner structure of the text and find connections with other authors they have read; and
  4. demonstrate a consolidation of their linguistic skills, in particular their reading and writing abilities.
