Unit Description

In Introductory Spanish I basic communication skills in spoken and written Spanish are developed through the use of electronic media, reading comprehension, structural exercises and oral practice. Aspects of contemporary Hispanic culture and society are also studied.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. understand a reasonable percentage of everyday Spanish spoken at close to normal speed relating to a variety of specific situations;
  2. read general information about things and places of interest within a limited vocabulary, and read functional items;
  3. fill in official forms and write straightforward letters or accounts of events;
  4. demonstrate a basic awareness of the general grammatical and syntactic structures; and
  5. discuss basic aspects of Hispanic culture and society.
