Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

understand a range of contemporary theories relating to the role of the state and individualism in civil society;

develop academic skills in political science and sociology dealing with the application of theories, concepts and approaches in analytical contexts;

develop an understanding of questions pertaining to the relationship between the individual, politics and society;

enhance their abilities in research and written analysis; and

Knowledge of a Discipline
The unit covers a wide area in understanding the various dimensions of the theory and practice of political sociology, with particular focus on Australia. This will be assessed in all assessment tasks.
