Unit Description

This unit comprises one half of the fourth-year honours program in psychology. It is completed by full-time students concurrently with PSYC402H or PSYC403H, and by part-time students before PSYC402H or PSYC403H. Students attend two mandatory intensive schools in April and August. The unit includes two advanced reading courses and activities and seminars on the ethics, history, theory and practice of psychology. Assessment is by way of presentations and written assessments. The unit, when combined with PSYC402H, provides a fourth year accredited by The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. show an advanced understanding of two specific areas of psychology;
  2. appreciate the historical foundations of psychology and the ethical responsibilities of psychological researchers and practitioners;
  3. show an understanding of some of the more widely used psychological assessments and interventions;
  4. understand and employ basic skills associated with the practice of psychology.
