Unit Description

The unit covers the functional mechanisms of the nervous, sensory, urinary, reproductive, muscular and immune systems in humans and other mammals. In addition, the way in which the body responds to various stimuli will be studied. Laboratory work includes studies on both humans and other animals. Emphasis is placed on the human body and domesticated mammals.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. outline the basic chemical principles and concepts of cell physiology associated with the functioning of the mammalian body;
  2. describe the structure and function of the mammalian nervous and sensory systems and apply this information to solving physiological problems;
  3. describe the structure and function of the mammalian reproductive system and apply this information to solving physiological problems;
  4. describe the structure and function of the mammalian urinary system and apply this information to solving physiological problems;
  5. describe the structure and function of mammalian muscle and apply this information to solving physiological problems;
  6. conduct standard experimental procedures associated with the functioning of the nervous, sensory urinary, reproductive and muscular systems of the mammalian body and apply these procedures to the integrated understanding of physiological principles.
