Unit Description

This unit is focused on musical performance in small ensembles. Students will develop skills of performance with an emphasis on understanding the dynamics of group performances. Students will also practise skills of accompaniment and conducting as related to their own performance practice. All students will also undertake ensemble performance activities.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an understanding of the special nature of musical communication in a small ensemble;
  2. perform a short program of musical works at an appropriately high standard in an ensemble with at least one other person;
  3. identify and discuss communication skills as appropriate to small musical ensembles;
  4. direct an instrumental ensemble; and
  5. perform repertoire with an ensemble relevant to their musical background and residential location.
