Unit Description

In this unit aural skills, tonal and atonal music practices are studied to assist the development of skill sets and techniques essential for effective music composition.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. recognise and apply from both aural and written perspectives harmonic and atonal structures within Western music;
  2. recognise and apply from both aural and written perspectives rhythmic and formal structures present within tonal and atonal music; and
  3. apply concepts and structures within tonal and non-tonal music through composition.
