| Learning Outcomes (LO) |
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
-
demonstrate an ability to communicate appropriately with patients, health professional and the public;
-
understand the modes of delivery of health care services in Australia (in general) and in NSW (specifically);
-
demonstrate an appropriate, professional attitude as a medical student, recognizing that the primary professional responsibility is to the health interest of the patient (ie not being rude, turning up on time, etc.);
-
apply the basic ethical and legal constraints that structure the interaction between health care professionals and patients;
-
interact safely with patients and professionals in the health care system, with due regard for hospital and system safety and OH&S standards;
-
recognise potential 'risk situations' and be able to respond appropriately;
-
demonstrate initial skills in the approach to taking a structured medical history;
-
recognise key features of the history and communicate these to other health care professionals;
-
demonstrate initial skills in the initial management of uncomplicated wounds and simple trauma;
-
demonstrate an understanding of the basis of clinical pharmacology and use of drugs in clinical medicine;
-
apply a knowledge of basic anatomical pathology to clinical medicine.
