This unit overviews the diversity of languages in Southeast Asia and East Asia, and describes the main sociocultural and linguistic similarities and differences among them. The unit teaches appropriate linguistic techniques for analysing characteristic features of many of these languages, such as tones, classifiers, serial verb constructions, honorifics, and non-alphabetic scripts.
