Unit Description

This unit provides an introduction to descriptive approaches to the analysis of language sound systems (mostly English but also other languages), building on the knowledge from foundation units in linguistics. The focus is on problem solving and data analysis, rather than theory, though some current theoretical perspectives are also discussed. This unit has an applied focus on writing, spelling, literacy and pronunciation, and will appeal to anyone interested in the learning or teaching of language.
