Unit Description

This is an advanced unit and caters primarily to those students who commenced their Japanese language studies at UNE at higher than beginners' level (ie second year or higher) or to native speakers of Japanese. The major aim of the unit is to enhance students' overall communicative competence in Japanese by improving their ability to self-monitor, self-correct and manage conversations, for example. Students undertake such study activities as reading articles/papers on Japanese sociolinguistics (in English and Japanese) and analysing and reporting on recorded conversations in Japanese. There is no exam for this unit, which can be taken within a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate awards.
