Unit Description

The unit consists of the supervised preparation of a research dissertation of 14 000-16 000 words in English on a topic within Japanese studies, as agreed upon by the student and members of the discipline.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. formulate research questions pertaining to Japanese;
  2. display higher order, independent research skills;
  3. demonstrate advanced analytical abilities, in combining a broad range of research materials, often from several media;
  4. write up extensive research, based upon the student's own question and independent research; and
  5. demonstrate an understanding of the methodological issues and a broad knowledge of the overall subject area.
