Unit Description

This unit acquaints students with the works of the major authors of 14th Century Italy. Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca and Giovanni Boccaccio are the founders of the Italian literary tradition.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically analyse literary texts, showing a greater critical acumen than at 300-level;
  2. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of 14th Century Italian literature;
  3. gain an advanced knowledge of the socio-political situation of 14th Century Italy; and
  4. gain a greatly expanded language ability through the reading of 14th century texts.
