Unit Description

This unit acquaints students with the works of the major authors of 14th century Italy - Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca and Giovanni Boccaccio - the founders of the Italian literary tradition.
Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically analyse literary texts, showing a greater critical acumen than at 300-level;
  2. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of 14th century Italian literature;
  3. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the socio-political situation of 14th century Italy; and
  4. demonstrate a greatly expanded language ability through the reading of 14th century texts.
