Unit Description

This unit introduces the dynamic literary activity of the Italian Renaissance and gives a wide chronological perspective of the literary trends of this period. Students will study the poetry and drama which influenced all later European cultures.
Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically analyse literary texts;
  2. display an advanced knowledge of 15th and 16th Century Italian literature;
  3. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the socio-political and philosophical situation of Renaissance Italy;
  4. greatly expand their Italian language ability through the reading of Renaissance Italian texts; and
  5. show a greater critical acumen and provide fuller critical apparatus than those students undertaking the unit at 300-level.
