Unit Description

This unit introduces students to the works of major Italian novelists of the latter part of the 20th Century. It traces the development of the novel from the postwar to the modernistic and post-modernistic periods. This unit is now available in English to students with no knowledge of the Italian language.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically analyse literary texts, showing a greater critical acumen and providing fuller critical apparatus than at 300-level;
  2. demonstrate a knowledge of 20th Century Italian literature;
  3. demonstrate a knowledge of the socio-political situation of modern Italy; and
  4. demonstrate a greatly expanded Italian language ability through the reading of modern Italian texts (for those studying the texts in Italian).
