Unit Description

This unit allows the student, under the supervision of an academic, to demonstrate his/her ability to work independently in conducting research, making deep analysis, reporting findings, and contextualising the findings within the relevant literature. At the end of the unit the student is expected to submit a scholarly dissertation of 14 000 to 16 000 words in Indonesian or English.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. formulate questions pertaining to the relevant area in Indonesian studies;
  2. demonstrate higher order, independent research skills;
  3. display advanced analytical abilities, in combining a broad range of research materials, often from several media, in order to answer his/her thesis question(s);
  4. write up an extended research dissertation, based upon the student's own questions and independent research;
  5. understand methodological issues and display a broad knowledge of the overall subject area relating to Indonesia.
