Unit Description

Language development and the advancement of cultural understanding will be further developed through the study of more complex texts from various sources on themes such as tourism, labour and employment, media, and the roles of women. Discussion of contemporary issues and other activities is conducted mostly in Indonesian.

Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. conduct conversations in most social situations with considerable confidence and discuss issues related to themes such as tourism, labour and employment, the media and the roles of women;
  2. understand instructions, requests, conversation dealing with these themes and other social situations and respond appropriately and intelligently;
  3. handle written texts needed in everyday life, daily commerce and simple work situations, write personal and business correspondence with confidence, describe in writing objects and simple processes in a clear and concise way with a higher level of grammatical accuracy, and handle texts related to the themes covered in the unit at a considerable level of complexity;
  4. read prose of upper intermediate to advanced levels of complexity, in a form equivalent to typescript or printing, on subjects within familiar contexts, and with the help of a bilingual dictionary readily understand personal written communication on everyday topics, and media reports related to the theme covered;
  5. achieve level 3 of the Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating Scale (ASLPR);
  6. achieve the generic skills, global perspectives and the habit and attitude of life-long learning, particularly in relation to Indonesia and Australia-Indonesia relationships.
