Unit Description

Indonesian language development and the advancement of cultural understanding will be continued through the study of a variety of moderately complex texts from sources such as Indonesian newspapers, magazines, etc. Learning and acquisition is enhanced through 'real life' communicative tasks and activities. The focus is on contemporary issues. Grammar is taught in order to enhance learning and the acquisition of the language.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. conduct conversations in most social situations with considerable confidence, including giving details of personal information such as family and marital status, work and professional background, personal preferences and choices, and discussing issues related to themes such as personal relationship, socio-political and economic issues, religions, law and order;
  2. understand instructions, requests, conversation dealing with these themes and other social situations, and respond appropriately and intelligently;
  3. handle written texts needed in everyday life, daily commerce and simple work situations, write personal and business correspondence with confidence, describe in writing objects and simple processes in a clear and concise way with a reasonably high level of grammatical accuracy, and handle texts related to themes ata considerable level of complexity;
  4. read prose of intermediate level of complexity, in a form equivalent to typescript or printing, on subjects within familiar contexts. With the help of a bilingual dictionary, the student will be able to understand personal written communication on everyday topics, and media reports related to the themes.
