Students with substantial knowledge of Indonesian, equivalent to HSC level should enrol at 200 level. Indonesian or Malay Native Speakers are not permitted to enrol in INDN101 or INDN102 or INDN201.

Unit Description

This unit extends students' basic abilities to understand and express themselves in Indonesian through both written and oral/aural means. On completing the unit, students can expect to be able to converse on a wide range of topics, write lengthy (but basic) prose, and read simplified texts, such as short stories and historical passages.

Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. converse on a wide range of topics using simple Indonesian;
  2. express themselves in written Indonesian on a wide range of topics using simple language;
  3. read simplified Indonesian texts, such as short stories and historical passages; and
  4. demonstrate some basic socio-linguistic understanding of the Indonesian culture in the assessment tasks and the exam.

Learning how to use a new language involves problem solving as well as logical thinking and creative thinking, and therefore some assessed communicative tasks will include problem solving.
