Unit Description

This unit examines modern major forums of policy review and inquiry in relation to Australia's First Peoples. Case studies are undertaken to facilitate critical analyses.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. appraise the principal concepts/theories relating to policy formulation, implementation and review processes;
  2. evaluate the content of major forums of policy review and inquiry in relation to Australia?s First Peoples public policy;
  3. critically assess recent major inquiries relating to Indigenous social issues by examining case studies; and
  4. analyse policy reform outcomes in the light of current issues affecting Indigenous Australian communities as revealed in major commissions of inquiry, and through them, consider the importance of community responses and achievements for achieving satisfactory outcomes.
