Unit Description

The unit explores some current issues in human nutrition. Topics include the evidence-based approach, diet and health, and dietary assessment. The unit is equivalent to 39 lectures. Assessment is 40% from assignments and 60% from one examination.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. describe and discuss the nature of human nutrition and the use of the evidence-based approach in human nutrition;
  2. describe the contribution of diet to the development of various diseases and/or the maintenance of health;
  3. discuss controversial statements about the contribution of diet to health; and
  4. evaluate dietary data to determine whether diets are adequate and healthful.
