Notes

1. This unit is primarily fieldwork education whereby the student is placed with an experienced social work supervisor and is expected to practise in a professional social work role for the 550 hour duration of the fieldwork. In addition students will attend the equivalent of a five-day intensive school. Days 1 and 5 of the dates are allocated for travelling to and from the intensive.

2. A Secure Digital (SD) memory card, of at least 8GB, is required for saving video recordings during the intensive school for this unit.

Unit Description

This is a fieldwork unit comprising 550 hours in a social work related practicum. Practical fieldwork is an integral part of social work education and required by the Australian Association of Social Workers for eligibility. Fieldwork placements provide students with the challenge of working with clients in a supervised setting. Placements can be undertaken in a range of social work settings including hospitals, community health centres, community organisations, social service organisations and government bodies. Students are supervised by an experienced social worker during their practicum where they will be expected to undertake the duties of a beginning social worker and reflect on their practice and the services of the agency.
