Unit Description

This unit examines the role and development of complementary therapies in the context of the Australian health care system. It explores a variety of alternative and/or complementary therapies; in doing so it engages with the cultural, social and regulatory changes which lie behind the development of a growing market of alternative therapies. The contemporary debates and conflicts over these therapies within and between various groups of health professionals such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists and others are discussed with reference to the broader social, economic and health implications of the alternative/ complementary therapies movement.
