Unit Description

Intended for planning students, this unit provides a grounding in one of the core areas of planning activity - development control. The unit covers the institutional context within which development control operates; the major reform influences on development control, and seeks to develop practical skills in the preparation of development control instruments, applications and assessment. A non-mandatory intensive school is held at the commencement of the unit.

  1. present a competent understanding of the operating environment of the development control task including its political, institutional and policy environment, particularly at local government level;
  2. critique the latest developments in, and the theoretical underpinnings of, development assessment and development control; and
  3. prepare applications; the preparation of development control instruments and undertake the assessment of applications.
