The theme of the unit, and the framework for the three literary texts set, is war and the occupation of France by enemy forces.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. appreciate at an advanced level a sample of important literary works, written in French or their equivalent, in other areas of French and Francophone culture and civilisation;
  2. analyse their content at a more sophisticated level than is required for the 300 level unit; and
  3. relate this to the social and political context in which the works were conceived.
