Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. display competence in dictionary usage for pronunciation using IPA symbols;
  2. demonstrate perception, discrimination and oral production of the 36 phonemes of French;
  3. demonstrate strategies for avoidance of inter-language 'interference' causing 'foreign accent';
  4. demonstrate an understanding of French syllabification, liaison, stress and intonation patterns;
  5. deduce spelling from pronunciation and pronunciation from spelling.
