| Unit Description |
The unit aims to introduce students to the Victorian period and examines a selection of Victorian texts and images in relation to social, religious, political, economic and other contexts. It will begin with an interrogation of notions of 'Victorianism', drawing attention to the contested nature of the term and go on to examine such areas of debate as gender and nation; empire and race; the Victorian child; and visions of the metropolis. |
