Unit Description

Introduction to advanced aspects of using remote sensing and image processing for resource management. The subject will cover aspects of: digital image display and enhancement; image ratios; principal components analysis; image classification and image rectification. Case studies examining the combination of remote sensing and GIS for natural resource management will be examined. Students should be computer literate and access to the Internet is highly desirable. The 500-level unit is based on the undergraduate level unit with additional reading, assignments or projects and the demonstration of a greater level of understanding of the undergraduate material.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. investigate the spatial processing toolbox and its application to real-world problems;
  2. empower students to be independent and productive users of the spatial processing toolbox in their own area of choice;
  3. sssess the usefullness of various image processing techniques in different field scenarios; and
  4. construct error matrices from classified digital images and evaluate error matrices and write reports interpreting these matrices.

Graduate Attributes (GA)
