Unit Description

This unit examines a variety of social computing tools including blogs and wikis and their application within teaching and learning environments. Learning theories associated with the use of these tools will be explored with the intent of developing an understanding and rationale for their use. Other topics include: planning and integration, applications for use, and assessment and evaluation.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between significant learning theories and the integration of social computing technologies in an educational setting;
  2. plan for the integration of social computing technologies as tools for learning in an educational setting;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of principles underpinning the integration of social computing tools, including programming, assessment and evaluation; and
  4. construct and present a personal philosophy for uses of social computing tools in an educational setting.
