Unit Description

The main objective of the unit is to introduce applied econometric methods to deal with panel and time series models. Topics include seemingly unrelated regression models and simultaneous equations models. Real-world examples are used to illustrate particular techniques. Examples are drawn from both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Problems and exercises are solved using an econometrics software package.

Materials Text information will be published prior to commencement of the teaching period.
Disclaimer Unit information may be subject to change prior to commencement of the teaching period.
Assessment Assessment information will be published prior to commencement of the teaching period.
Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. gain an understanding of econometric techniques used for the estimation of simultaneous equations;
  2. gain an understanding of econometric techniques used for the estimation of panel models and discrete choice models;
  3. gain an understanding of the role of computers in the estimation of systems of equations, panel models and discrete choice models; and
  4. gain an understanding of the limitations and potential uses of econometric techniques in the analysis of economic behaviour.
