Unit Description

This unit explores the area of Decision Support Systems (DSS) and investigates the fundamental techniques associated with them. In this unit, students will learn about the frameworks for decision support and Business Intelligence (BI) systems, modeling/analysis, data warehousing fundamentals, Business Analytics, Data Visualisation and Group Support Systems. The characteristics, capabilities, classifications, and components of DSS are also discussed.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate their knowledge in the areas of managerial decision making, decision making models, and decision making phases;
  2. explain the characteristics, configurations, capabilities, classifications and components of DSS;
  3. demonstrate their knowledge in modeling and analysis of DSS;
  4. explain the characteristics, structure and components of Business Intelligence;
  5. explain the notions of Data Warehousing, Business Analytics and Data Visualization; and
  6. explain the fundamentals of collaborative computer-supported technologies and Group Support Systems.
