Unit Description

This unit provides further consolidation of Greek or Latin syntax and style at an advanced level. Emphasis is given to reading unseen passages in the original. In addition, one major literary text will be read with attention given to content as well as syntax. Candidates must continue to follow the language strand selected in the first- and second-year units.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. apply advanced language skills in the translation of and analysis of set texts;
  2. understand how Greek and Roman authors use their language to express particular ideas;
  3. apply high level literary criticism in Greek or Latin; and
  4. show knowledge of narratology, intertextual studies, and reader response theory.

Students studying on campus will learn valuable communication skills through participation in tutorials. Off-campus students will practise their communication skills through online discussions on blackboard.
