Why study the Graduate Certificate in Accounting at UNE?
The Graduate Certificate in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring four or less units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. It can serve as an entry and exit point for the Master of Professional Accounting. The course comprises four units (that is 24 credit points) and is usually used to supplement existing studies in accounting to satisfy the entry requirements of the professional accounting organisations. Subjects are drawn from the Master of Professional Accounting and may cover introductory as well as advanced units in accounting, finance, systems, law, auditing, economics and business statistics. The course is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants.

In addition, applicants for admission to candidature under Rule (b) must provide evidence of at least three years' work experience in a field of employment approved by the course coordinator. |

| Advanced Standing | Advanced standing is available for other postgraduate study that has a reasonable correspondence with units prescribed for this degree. The maximum advanced standing that can be granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is up to 50% of a program. |

| Fast Track | The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods within the calendar year. Trimesters run from late January to April; mid May to late August and beginning of September to mid-December. |

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a three-year degree or an equivalent qualification (e.g. acceptable international three-year diploma) as sufficient qualification for admission to candidature; or
(b) satisfy the course coordinator by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.
In addition, applicants for admission to candidature under Rule (b) must provide evidence of at least three years' work experience in a field of employment approved by the course coordinator.
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is available for other postgraduate study that has a reasonable correspondence with units prescribed for this degree.
The maximum advanced standing that can be granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is up to 50 percent of a program.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 6 months as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to six trimesters as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points as approved by the course coordinator.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Accounting.
