Overview In this course students are able to complete one of the approved majors or they may complete a 'general' Bachelor of Computer Science. Each major includes a sequence of study in computer science based on the study of the programming language C++ together with applied mathematics in first year. Topics covered include architecture and assembler, software engineering, data structures, operating systems, databases, programming in Java, networks, multimedia, game programming, data mining, software project management, etc. The major completed will appear on the academic record and testamur. There is opportunity for articulation from the NSW TAFE Diploma in Information Technology.. A fourth year is required for Honours.

Entry Requirements Normal admission requirements apply. Assumed knowledge is Mathematics at NSW HSC level, or equivalent and students without the recommended background knowledge, the Faculty offers a Foundation unit in Mathematics. Students are also able to articulate into the BCompSc(Information Technology) on completion of the NSW TAFE Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent which counts for 72 credit points.

Career Opportunities Examples include technical positions in e-business, internet and networking specialists, specialized financial computer programs, software solution designers, and careers in economic modelling, artificial intelligence, game programming and electronic product design. Students who complete the double degree BCompSc/LLB also find employment in banking, management and the Diplomatic Service.
Practical, Clinical or Work Experience None
Double Degree Opportunities A Bachelor of Computer Science/Bachelor of Laws is offered. Successful candidates for this double program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Computer Science and the degree of Bachelor of Laws.
Advanced Standing Advanced standing may be granted on the basis of previous study completed at a recognised tertiary institution. Advanced standing for 72 credit points is granted on the basis of a completed TAFE qualification approved by the Faculty.

Other Benefits The Bachelor of Computer Science has been granted Level A accreditation by the Computer Society of Australia. Fully credited exchange programs of one semester are in place with international universities. BCompSc graduates are eligible to enrol for a range of Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and course work Master programs.
Honours A fourth Honours year is available to students with an above average academic record. Course requirements usually include a research project with thesis, reading assignments and essays. BCompSc(Hons) graduates who achieve the appropriate level of Honours are eligible to apply to enrol for a research Master degree or the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Scholarships The University offers a number of Faculty/College and country scholarships available to Australian citizens and permanent residents.
