| Overview | The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in accounting and/or finance, either as an accountant in private practice or employed in industry, commerce or the public sector. It allows students to major solely in Professional Accounting, or both Professional Accounting and Applied Finance and provides you with the knowledge and technical skills you need to succeed in the accounting/finance field. This is the degree to take you straight into the accounting profession. Students can satisfy the educational requirements for admission to the major professional accounting bodies (CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA)) by including relevant units in their program of study. The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) provides you with the opportunity for an exciting career in accounting, a field that offers challenge, variety and job satisfaction; an opportunity to travel and work overseas and the opportunity to diversify your career into various sectors of the business community. |

| Entry Requirements | A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy). Assumed knowledge is any two units of English. Recommended studies: Any two units of Mathematics. For some units in the economics, finance and quantitative statistics areas it is recommended that students have previously studied mathematics. Also Accounting, Economics and Business. |

| Career Opportunities | Examples include positions in accounting, financial administration in corporate organisations, auditing, stockbroking, investment advising, small and medium enterprise management and careers in government departments such as trade and industry. |

| Practical, Clinical or Work Experience | Students may undertake the Work Ready unit as an elective unit. |

| Advanced Standing | Advanced Standing may be granted for relevant qualifications or studies. |

| Other Benefits | This degree allows accreditation with the three major professional accounting bodies in Australia: CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). 2011-2012 Summer or Trimester 3 2012 provides an opportunity for students to fast track their academic progression or to catch up on units required to complete their degree. A selection of units is offered off campus during these periods, enabling students to study from home and to accelerate their progress towards graduation. |

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy).
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) three years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to ten years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 144 credit points with not more than 60 credit points at 100-level and at least 36 credit points at 300-level.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements including one mandatory major or one mandatory major and one approved major shall be awarded the Bachelor of Commere - Accounting.
Exit Pathways
Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in Business on completion of 48 credit points.
