Unit Description

This unit introduces the pervasive problem of fraud and how it affects individuals, organisations and society. It aims to develop students? understanding of the causes of fraud and enable them to recognise the significance of this understanding in effective fraud fighting. Topics covered include methods for the prevention, detection, investigation and resolution of frauds committed against organisations and individuals.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an understanding of the types of fraud that can be perpetrated on individuals and organisations;
  2. critically analyse situations that lead to the perpetration of fraud in an organisational setting;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of methods of fraud prevention, detection, and investigation; and
  4. critically evaluate mechanisms of control and governance used to prevent and detect fraud in contemporary organisational settings.
