Entry Requirements

A candidate shall have fulfilled the requirements for admission to a *relevant three-year degree or a *relevant qualification of equivalent standing at this or another university or tertiary institution.

*A relevant degree will be in Accounting or Finance or a related discipline.

Applicants considered to be inadequately prepared for candidature may be advised to enrol in the Graduate Diploma or a Masters Qualifying program. Depending on circumstances and performance, such a candidate may be eligible to transfer to the Masters program.

Additional Requirements

The following documentation must be included with your online application:

Certified or notarised copy of your Identification (eg: passport)

Certified or notarised copies of academic records

A Personal Statement covering areas such as:

Your most significant experiences or achievements to date;

Your long-term objectives and your expectations of this degree in fulfilling these objectives;

Where you see yourself five years from now;

Any other information you consider relevant to your admission.

* Evidence of English Language Proficiency if previous studies were not in English

Advanced Standing

The maximum advanced standing granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is 24 credit points. Each application is decided individually, and applicants must provide documentation to support their application for advanced standing in each unit.

Fast Track

The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods each year.

Admission to Candidature

A candidate shall have fulfilled the requirements for admission to a *relevant three year degree or *relevant qualification of equivalent standing at this or another university or tertiary institution.

*A relevant degree will be in Accounting or Finance or a related discipline.

Advanced Standing

At the discretion of the course coordinator, on the recommendation of the head of school or nominee, a candidate may be granted advanced standing for course work units only, passed prior to admission to candidature, provided that such units have reasonable correspondence with units offered in the Master of Commerce for up to 24 credit points, on the basis of units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another University; or through other significant learning which the school considers equivalent to units prescribed for the Master of Commerce.

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to 12 trimesters as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Master of Commerce.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an effective command of specialist knowledge in the accounting and finance or management disciplines;
  2. communicate extensively to a range of stakeholders using appropriate and diverse written, verbal, numerical, statistical, graphical and visual methods;
  3. demonstrate a strong awareness of the global context in relation to their organisation;
  4. work proficiently with a variety of resources to research and disseminate information, particularly using technology based media;
  5. engage in self-directed learning in the workforce or through further study with personal strategies for lifelong professional development and learning to acquire knowledge for multi-dimensional strategic thinking. Graduates will pursue learning both independently and cooperatively, and this continual development will enable them to respond appropriately to complex, unfamiliar and unexpected challenges in the ever-changing business environment;
  6. critically and creatively analyse problems systematically and synthesise material from a variety of sources in identifying; and
  7. demonstrate an understanding of the importance of the social and environmental impacts of themselves and their organisations and factor those impacts into business and personal decision making.
