Graduate Certificate in Management

Why study the Graduate Certificate in Management at UNE?

This award enables students to develop a range of management skills. Students select four units and may choose from key management subjects or may choose to specialise in an area such as Marketing or Human Resource Management to develop expertise to suit their work and career goals. A major in Pharmacy is also available for Pharmacy managers or those wishing to enter Pharmacy management. This degree serves as an entry and an exit point for the Master of Business Administration.

Entry Requirements

1. A candidate shall:

(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a three-year degree or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the school as sufficient qualification for admission to candidature; or

(b) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.

2. In addition, applicants for admission to candidature must provide evidence of at least three years' work experience in a field of employment approved by the school on the recommendation of the Program Director.

Additional Requirements

Applicants will need to supply:

* Certified Copies of academic transcripts

* Certified Copies of evidence of identification

* Evidence of English Language Proficiency if previous studies were not in English

* Curriculum Vitae

* A Personal Statement covering areas such as:

Your most significant experiences or achievements to date;

Your long-term objectives and your expectations of this degree in fulfilling these objectives;

Where you see yourself five years from now;

Any other information you consider relevant to your admission.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing is available for other postgraduate study that has a reasonable correspondence with units prescribed for this degree.

The maximum advanced standing that can be granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is up to 50% of a program.

Fast Track

The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods each year.

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be up to six trimesters as a part-time candidate.

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Management.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate generalist knowledge and skills in the field of management and related disciplines and apply current theory to management practices within their workplace;
  2. communicate appropriately and persuasively with a range of stakeholders;
  3. demonstrate a strong awareness of the global context in relation to their organisation;
  4. work proficiently with a variety of resources to research and disseminate information, particularly using technology based media; and
  5. engage in self-directed learning in the workforce or through further study with personal strategies for lifelong professional development and learning, to acquire knowledge for multi-dimensional thinking. Graduates will pursue learning both independently and cooperatively, and this continual development will enable them to respond appropriately to complex, unfamiliar and unexpected challenges in the ever-changing business environment.
