This course has the general aim of providing a formal academic qualification for people who wish to obtain training at the tertiary level in some area of agriculture, without the need to commit themselves to a full degree program. It is an ideal program for those who need to undertake a refresher course in a particular discipline, or who wish to broaden their knowledge, or who perhaps simply wish to satisfy their curiosity.

| Entry Requirements | A candidate shall: (a) hold a certificate of the school or equivalent qualification; or (b) have satisfied the school by means of other qualifications and/or related experience, that the equivalent standard of Rule (a) has been achieved. Applicants should have completed the Certificate IV in Agriculture at NSW TAFE, or the equivalent, but applicants with other qualifications and relevant experience will be considered. |

Advanced standing will be granted for units which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course as follows: (a) a maximum of 24 credit points for units completed at the University or another institution; or (b) no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units completed at the University and which have not been counted towards another qualification. |

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold a certificate of the school or equivalent qualification; or
(b) have satisfied the school by means of other qualifications and/or related experience, that the equivalent standard of Rule (a) has been achieved.
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except where approved for units completed as part of the UNE Pathways Enabling Course or the TRACKS tertiary preparation program or an approved articulation in the course).
Advanced standing will be granted for units which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course as follows:
(a) a maximum of 24 credit points for units completed at the University or another institution; or
(b) no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units completed at the University and which have not been counted towards another qualification.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points:
(a) complete a course work program approved in advance by the course coordinator comprising units from those listed below; or
(b) complete one of the approved course work programs.
Units offered for the Diploma are: AGEX 310; AGRO 100, 422; ANPR 211, 321, 417, 440; ANUT 300; COTT 300, 301, 302, 303; ECON 223; EM 311, 334; GENE 251; GRNS 300, 301, 302, 303; HORT 420; MEAT 418; MM 110, 200; PLTY 300, 301; RSNR 110, 120; WOOL 412, 422, 472, 482; and with the approval of the course coordinator, other units offered within the University subject to candidates meeting overall course requirements and prerequisite and timetabling requirements for individual units, may be substituted for one or more of these units.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements including on approved course work program or a program of study approved by the course coordinator shall be awarded the Diploma in Agriculture.

Students will be required to read literature on practical and theoretical aspects of agricultural science and management.

Students will be required to express well-organised, logical and clearly written assessment tasks. Students will be exposed to techniques for improved oral and written communication skills throughout the course.

Students will examine examples of models, theories and case-studies related to production of food and fibre, products and management of associated natural resources around the world.

Students will be instructed, assessed and expected to demonstrate research capacity in written assignments and utilise a wide range of sources.

Students will be instructed in, assessed and practise learning skills in critical thinking, research and communication that will be useful to them beyond the unit of learning.
