Combined Units HIST338 - Australian Frontiers: Rural and Regional Histories
Coordinator(s) David Roberts (drobert9@une.edu.au)
Unit Description

This unit explores the history of individuals, families and communities on the fringes of settler society in Australia during the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. In particular, it looks at the relationships between settlers and the land they inhabited, including conflicting views over the use and ownership of that land, and the evolution of regional and community identities. It also considers the idea of the frontier and the bush as the supposed founding ground of Australian identity and character.
