Unit Description

This is a reading unit designed to prepare students to undertake action learning based project work. Students will progress through a series of specified readings on the principles underlying action learning. The practical application of action learning guidelines is fundamental to this unit's pedagogical philosophy. Topics include: understanding the principals of action learning and action research; action learning tools (learning logs, critical incident analysis, set group facilitation); planning an action-learning project; the dynamics of organisation context and complexity.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. understand and apply the key dimension of action learning and its associated methodologies within organisations;
  2. critically reflect on their personal small group learning experiences within an action learning framework;
  3. plan, in detail, an action-learning project within their own organisation.
