Unit Description

This unit provides an introduction to key areas of study of adult education and training. Through case studies, the areas of provision and philosophies of adult education and training are explored, along with the roles of educators of adults. Students are encouraged to relate their studies in this unit to their own experience and work situations in association with the literature of the field.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. develop their understanding of some of the concepts and terms used in the study of adult education;
  2. discuss the diverse forms of adult education and training provision in Australia and overseas;
  3. consider some of the major theoretical and philosophical traditions in adult education, and clarify their own values in relation to these;
  4. discuss some important current issues in ways informed by what they learn in this unit.
