TRACKS Tertiary Preparation Program
Why study the TRACKS Tertiary Preparation Program at UNE?
TRACKS is a tertiary preparation program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who would like to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake undergraduate studies at UNE. The TRACKS Tertiary Preparation Program offers flexible learning and first-hand experience in university study. The TRACKS program has been developed to provide students with an opportunity to access and explore tertiary education and to make informed choices about the future direction of their education. Students can draw upon their own experiences and values while developing skills needed in a successful tertiary career.
Although eligible domestic students are exempt from the student contribution amount for HECS, they are still liable for the Student Services and Amenities Fee. Eligible students may apply for SA-HELP with regard to the Student Services and Amenities Fee.

Completion of the TRACKS tertiary preparation program provides the basis for admission to most undergraduate courses at UNE. |

| Additional Requirements | Candidates must attend a compulsory 3-day pre-orientation program on-campus in Armidale, unless an exemption is granted by Course Coordinator prior to commencement of the program. There is no cost to students associated with the pre-orientation. |

| Scholarships | Information about applying for scholarships can be obtained from the Oorala Aboriginal Centre. Scholarships for TRACKS students include: Commonwealth Equity Scholarships You could be eligible for a Commonwealth Equity Scholarship (for full-time students unless there are exceptional circumstances): For Commencing Indigenous Students Indigenous Access Scholarship ($4,485, one off payment for undergraduate or TRACKS students) For Indigenous Students in Higher Education Enabling Courses (for TRACKS students) - Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship - Indigenous Enabling ($2,377 per year for on campus or off campus study) - Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships - Indigenous Enabling ($4,754 per year for on campus study if you have to relocate from a rural and remote area to attend university). Admission to Candidature
Admission to the TRACKS tertiary preparation program will be open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates:
(a) who are not admissible to a course and who intend to seek admission to an undergraduate course; or
(b) who state that completion of this enabling course will make them better qualified to undertake an undergraduate degree and who intend to seek admission to an undergraduate degree; or
(c) who have unsuccessfully attempted an undergraduate course previously and who state that completion of this enabling course will make them better qualified to undertake an undergraduate course.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a
part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To complete the TRACKS course and qualify for admission to an undergraduate course candidates shall satisfactorily complete a program of study comprising five TRAX units (total of 30 credit points) listed in the Program of Study and:
(a) attempt one undergraduate unit listed in the Program of Study; and
(b) satisfy all requirements as set out by the course coordinator, including attendance at all mandatory intensive schools.
A maximum of 18 credit points may be taken in a trimester.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Progression
(a) Any undergraduate unit may be attempted only once; and
(b) any one TRACKS unit may be attempted twice only, unless permission is given by the TRACKS course coordinator.
