Australian Qualifications Framework
Level 9 Master

E1. ADMISSION
E1.1. In compliance with Rule 1(b) applicants are required to have:

  • the degree of Bachelor of Education of The University of New England; or
  • a bachelor degree of a university and either a diploma in the field of education or the equivalent of one year of full-time study in education beyond that required for a three-year first degree; or
  • hold a graduate diploma relevant to the degree; or
  • hold the Master of Education; and
  • have attained a level of Credit or better in 18 credit points in education.

E1.2. MEd(Hons)(Special Education). It is expected that applicants will have had at least two years' post graduation experience. In addition, applicants will be required to have passed at least one unit in special education or have special education work experience.

E2. PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 1.5 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to 4 years as a part-time candidate.

E3. ADVANCED STANDING
A maximum of 24 credit points may be granted only for coursework units.

E4. COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Students must pass 72 credit points comprising the programs detailed in Schedule A, B or C.

E5. AWARD OF DEGREE
E5.1. Students who meet the course requirements listed in Schedule A or B shall be awarded the Master of Education (Honours) without specialisation.
E5.2. Students who meet the course requirements listed in Schedule C shall be awarded the Master of Education (Honours) with one of the following specialisations:

  • Arts Education
  • Early Childhood
  • eLearning
  • Gifted and Talented Education
  • Indigenous Australian Education
  • International Schooling, Education and Development
  • Literature and New Literacies
  • Mathematics Education
  • Physical Education
  • School Leadership
  • Science Education
  • Special Education
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

E6. EXIT PATHWAYS
Students who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the raduate Certificate in Education Studies on completion of 24 credit points of coursework units in Schedule B or C. Alternatively they may transfer to the Master of Education and complete additional units required to fulfil the degree.

E7. MINIMUM PROGRESS
Students must achieve a minimum grade of Credit in each course work unit to maintain satisfactory progress.
