A candidate shall be currently employed as a Registered Nurse, and:

(a) hold the degree of Bachelor of Nursing; or

(b) hold a three year diploma relevant to the award; or

(c) hold the Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing from the University of New England.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing in 2012.

Admission to Candidature

A candidate shall be currently employed as a Registered Nurse, and:
(a) hold the degree of Bachelor of Nursing; or
(b) hold a three year diploma relevant to the award; or
(c) hold the Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing from the University of New England.

Period of Candidature

For candidates admitted under Rules (a) or (b), the period of candidature shall be up to four years as a part-time candidate.

For candidates admitted under Rule (c), the period of candidature shall be up to two years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

1. (a) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing (Perioperative Nursing), a candidate admitted under Rules (a) or (b) must pass units to the value of 48 credit points as specified in Rule 1.(b).
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) all units in Group 1;
(ii) 6 credit points from Group 3.

2. (a) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing (Trauma and Critical Care Nursing), a candidate admitted under Rules (a) or (b) must pass units to the value of 48 credit points as specified in Rule 2.(b).
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) all units in Group 2;
(ii) 6 credit points from Group 3.

3. (a) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing (Perioperative Nursing), a candidate admitted under Rule (c) must pass units to the value of 24 credit points as specified in Rule 3.(b).
(b) The course shall comprise all units in Group 4.

4. (a) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing (Trauma and Critical Care Nursing), a candidate admitted under Rule (c) must pass units to the value of 24 credit points as specified in Rule 4.(b).
(b) The course shall comprise all units in Group 5.

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements under Rules 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing (Perioperative Nursing) or the Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing (Trauma and Critical Care Nursing).

Progress and Conduct

Candidates are referred to the University's General Rules Policy on Academic Progress.
