Graduate Diploma in Accounting

Why study the Graduate Diploma in Accounting at UNE?

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring up to eight units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. It can serve as an entry and exit point for the Master of Professional Accounting. The course comprises eight units (that is 48 credit points) and is usually used to supplement existing studies in accounting to satisfy the entry requirements of the professional accounting organisations. Subjects are drawn from the Master of Professional Accounting and may cover introductory as well as advanced units in accounting, finance, systems, law, auditing, economics and business statistics. The course is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants.

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring eight or less units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. Once associate membership is obtained students can pursue the professional studies for full membership.

Intensive Schools

Optional weekend schools are available for some units for off campus students.

Entry Requirements

1. A candidate shall:

(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a three-year degree or an equivalent qualification, acceptable to the school as sufficient qualification for admission to candidature; or

(b) have completed the Graduate Certificate in Accounting or other Graduate Certificate as approved by the Program Director.

2. In addition, applicants for admission to candidature under Rule 1.(b) must provide evidence of at least three years' work experience in a field of employment approved by the school on the recommendation of the course coordinator.

Additional Requirements

Applicants will need to supply:

Certified Copies of academic transcripts

Certified Copies of evidence of identification

Evidence of English Language Proficiency if applicable

Curriculum Vitae

A personal Statement covering areas such as:

Your most significant experiences or achievements to date;

Your long-term objectives and your expectations of this degree in fulfilling these objectives;

Where you see yourself five years from now;

Any other information you consider relevant to your admission.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing is available for other postgraduate study that has a reasonable correspondence with units prescribed for this degree.

The maximum advanced standing that can be granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is up to 50% of a program.

Fast Track

The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods within the calendar year.

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to twelve trimesters as a part-time candidate.

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Accounting.

Exit Pathways

Candidates may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Accounting on completion of 24 credit points from units specified in the course requirements.
